suburban baroness of bud

I cannot begin to express how much I love Weeds! I've heard about it for years, but I don't have showtime so I've never gotten a chance to see it. Well I reinstated my netflix a couple days ago and they have the first 3 seasons of Weeds on demand. I've watched the entire first season in 3 days and I believe its my new favorite show (well, ok, second place to Kendra). Suburbia with a sick twist, love it!!

double double toil and trouble

I'm seeing Wicked in 3 days!!! I absolutely cannot wait! This was the play I was supposed to see on the Macy's trip before the writers strike!

just call me gladys

I have spent this past weekend canning food in a pressure cooker. How cool/weird is that? I love trying new things!! My parents garden just spit off a TON of tomatoes and since our freezer is already full of stuff my mom and I decided to buy a pressure cooker and can our own tomatoes! I was quite an experiencce! It was so easy, but I my mom and I were nervous b/c you put sealed jars into boiling water and high pressure. I mean, how does that not explode? The jars all sealed well, but became very ugly when all the tomatoes floated to the top and all the liquid is on the bottom of the jar. It looks like alien guts in jars.

After realizing how easy the canning process is, decided we needed to do something with the rediculous amount of cucumbers our garden is growing. I cut off like 9 baby cucumbers from our vines and made bread and butter pickles and they are delicious!! I let the sliced cuces soak in salt and ice overnight so they turned out so crispy! I only made 4 jars and 1 is pretty much gone already, I think I will make some more this weekend.

A couple weekends ago was the porter peach festival and the weekend before that, my parents went and got lots and lots of peaches! I love porter peaches so much! I decided I wanted to make and can peach butter!! I read a bunch of recipes online and they all said it burns easily and is best made in the crock-pot. Well after crock-potting for like 8 hours I got tired of waiting for it to thicken and put in on the stove and boiled the shit out of it and it thickened beautifully and turned out amazing! I made 5 jars! My mom and dad were just eating it with a spoon. To further enjoy the peach butter I made biscuts and gravy. I hate making biscuts because I hate cutting in the butter b/c I am lazy and I hate kneeding the dough b/c I hate how the dough sticks everywhere, but the biscuts are not quite as fluffy if you coat everything with flour so they dont stink. Its a balancing act I just dont like.

city energy

I cannot believe I only have less than 48 hours left here in oklahoma city! It's been quite a summer!

I am happy to announce that my poster is complete! There was lots of drama and stress associated with getting it printed (my computer decided not to save any of the changes I had made between noon and 4pm on tues, so tues night I had to go back and change it all and hope I could remember what I had done!) but everything worked out fine. All the pediatric IT guys were on vacation so I had to have it printed at Fedex Office (which used to be Kinkos and I forgot about the name change and this caused quite a bit of confusion during my email conversations with the peds secretary). The FedEx Office is in downtown OKC which made me so happy! I love downtowns so so so much! I love the vibe and energy and feeling you get from walking down a city street between giant buildings and crazy sculptures. I also love the people too, so much more character than those from the 'burbs. I had forgotten how much I love cities. I was only in downtown for less than 20 minutes, but those few minutes in that area gave me such a mood booster that lasted for several hours!

I'm feeling a little manhattan withdrawl....

have you seen my husband remus lupin?

I love midnight showings so much! They make me feel like I'm in on some really big secret!

HP6 was amazing. Although I still dont like the lighting and atmosphere in the later movies, the rest was very well done. So much more "grown-up" then the first 4 and possibly 5, yet plenty of good jokes and puns.

patent snooze...I mean law

So today we had a lunch (pizza!!) pannel discussion with reps from all the different colleges here at OUHSC. They each gave a quick schpeel and the we could ask quesions. The first guy to talk was a PhD, JD. He just graduated law school and will be going into patent law (assuming he passes the bar exam). As he was talking about his science PhD how he got into being a patent agent and then attorney I kept thinking how new and different and interesting that sounded!
So then a couple hours later while "studying" for the mcat in the library I started investigating how becoming a patent attorney. The national exam website has all they're old exams online. I got through about half of one question and my eyes glazed over. I guess I wont be making a (potential) career switch anytime soon....

watercolor flowers.

I cannot believe how fast summer if flying by! Two weeks and one day and I'll be back in Tulsa! I've enjoyed being in OKC and having my own apartment again, but I miss ttown. I miss my dogs and my garden and my fam, but mostly my wonderful bed. One of the few things I'll miss about being in OKC is how my room I have in by bedroom for crafting! With a dorm size twin bed, I have plenty of floor space to spread out all things necessary for painting and crafting, but in Tulsa I do not have that luxury. Maybe I'll have to spread out a tarp or shower curtian on my bed and just paint on there! (I just thought of that!)

I left lab kind of early yesterday and rather than be productive when I got home, I decided to watch gilmore girls and paint. I was halfway through my third episode when I decided I wanted a nap. I didnt wake up until 8:30! I so did not need a 3 hour nap. I ended up painting until midnight and then reading until about 3am. I decided to experiment more with watercolors and am so glad I did! I think the paintings I did last night are some of my most favorite paintings ever! I always though watercolors were always just pastel and bland, but i guess that just depends on technique!
